MESOLITHIC PERIOD

c. 10 000 - 6 000 years ago

The Mesolithic period broadly defined by the use of more skillfully worked stone tools but predating the appearance of agriculture about 10 000 years ago is not a very distinct period in China.

Many of the activities that might have left traces might have taken place along the shorelines of a coast now 300 feet under the sea level of today.
