The family of Pott, England, c. 1770

Unusually well painted armorial plate with the coat of arm added at an area especially left undecorated for the purpose.

It is for the moment not known which branch of the Pott family this service was made for, but a Robert Percival Pott was indeed a senior merchant in Bengal in 1773, according to David Howard (R1) p. 583, and is a quite likely candidate as an original owner.
