GLOSSARY

Ruby glaze

After the restoration of the Imperial kilns during the early years of the reign of the emperor Kangxi, new glaze colors were introduced around the 1720's, incorporating new technology and new minerals. A matte glaze of a bright ruby-pink tone, along with lime green, were two of these new bright colors which included an opacifier to give previously translucent enamels an opaque body.
