GLOSSARY

Silica

Silica is a compound of silicon and oxygen which can be obtained from sand, quartz or flint. For faience, Quartz was used to produce the whitest, because it contains few impurities. Quartz is also specifically called "glaze stone" in the porcelain industry in Jingdezhen.
