GLOSSARY

Mandarin china

Also Mandarin decoration or Mandarin porcelain. A term introduced by Jacquemart to designate pieces of porcelain on which figures of mandarins and their suites were painted in panels surrounded by an abundance of flowers and ornaments covering the whole ground. The term is now a trade term, very losely employed. (see. Gulland, Chinese Porcelain, p. 208, Cosmo Monkhouse, Chinese Porcelain, p. 160)
