GLOSSARY

Pei hok ("Skin and shell")

A Hong Kong antique's dealers expression, when autheticating antique Chinese porcelain, pottery or anything for that matter such as a jade or bronze, whether it has been buried or not and of any age. They should all have a distinct appearance and share similar characteristics on on its "skin and shell" i.e. for ceramics its glaze surface or unglazed paste. If its not there, the piece is probably not right.
