GLOSSARY

Monkey

In the Chinese lunar calendar, the Monkey is one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac cycle. Each year in the cycle is associated with an animal sign, and the Monkey is the ninth animal in the cycle.

People born in the Year of the Monkey are said to possess characteristics associated with this animal, such as intelligence, curiosity, wit, and a penchant for mischief. The Chinese zodiac also cycles through five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), so each time the Monkey appears (every 12 years), it is paired with one of these elements, adding further to the personality profile of those born in that year.

The Monkey years are characterized by innovation and versatility, and those born under this sign are often viewed as problem solvers and social beings.
